This collection presents interdisciplinary perspectives on unwieldy and fascinating intersections of privileged knowledges and differential powers as culturally conflicting embodiments of place and time within the same physical space. Included are a rich variety of current and historical Maya spaces as well as examples from both North and South America. Legacies of space are presented not only as territory and usage but also as cultural identity – intangible heritage – an individual’s embodied legacy of ever-evolving engagements, rights, and limitations within a broad and ever-evolving range of institutionalized experiences in places.
