Hunting and fishing

pescando en el argaTraditional hunting and fishing have been increasingly subject to environmental regulation, reason why many of the practices are forbidden at present except for few exceptions such as pigeon shooting in Etxalar.

All the same, past testimonies about poacher semi-professional hunters and their crafts: weapons, traps, stocks, snares...Also about shooting battues for destructive animals, including the wolf. The whole of this oral hunting history is completed with the explanations on other associated elements to the art of traditional hunting: training of animals, decoys and, on the whole all its material culture.

Moreover, the history of sweetwater fishing, very common in Navarre and Lower Navarre where the different species that were captured were commercialized, has also been traced down. The art of fishing (using three nets, etc.) and the material culture associated with this professional (but marginal) fishing is registered in our corpus.

As well as in the study of traditional hunting as in traditional fishing the relationship between images and lexis is essential.
