Material culture

embutidoraCultural material is the aim of diverse ethnographic museums of Navarre and Lower Navarre, without forgetting important private collections that we can enjoy in many places. This material culture evidences that we should reject the homogenous term popular culture in favour of expressions such as "culture of popular classes" (Peter Burke) or such as " non-official culture of suboordinate classes" (Gramsci). We are interested in testimonies that inform us about three big groups: rural popular culture (farmers, shepherds, herdsmen, woodcutters, charcoal burner, miners, tailors, quack doctors and healers...); urban popular culture (culture of ethnic minorities and of craftsmen and guilds...); and the popular counter and subcultures (soldiers, bandits, contrabandits, beggers...). However, form the point of view of immaterial heritage, what is most important is to consider the vocabulary and lexis of the material culture associated to the graphic images and this is what we will emphasize.
