The Way Santiago running through Navarre and Lower Navarre is an important t joins both Navarres. There are numerous religious publications, audiovisual material and web pages already edited and that give answer to all the enquiries and curiosity aroused about the origins, motivations, routes and the history of such great pilgrimages; to all these sources we reference you. This is not therefore the objective of this section of our Archive but, rather to approach the immaterial patrimony of the Way of Santiago on the main routes that run through Lower Navarre and Navarre. The famous Guide describes the four French routes (Via Tolosana, Via podensis, Via lemovicensis and Via turonensis) that converge in Puente la Reina and that come from the two major routes: from San Juan de Pie de Puerto and from Yesa, respectively. This latter major route, once unified, leaves Navarre through Viana. Other minor routes are also important such as the Arakil route, the Baztan Valley route, the route of the Ribera or the one of the valley of Aibar. It is obvious that so many itineraries have left on our lands innumerable traces of our artistic heritage (churches, monasteries, hospitals, lodgings, crosses, etc.) that are reflected to the smallest detail in the photographic galeries of local places. By interactive browsing through our Archive, we may indulge in these artistic Jacobean routes. However, as our effort is directed to the study of oral and immaterial heritage, and in this case it is rich in legends (see section dedicated to them), in memories and traditions about pilgrimages (hospitality, orders and fraternities, frequency of pilgrims, graphic and audiovisual sources...) and testimonies of the pilgrims themselves that relate to the reasons for the pilgrimage to Santiago, reasons that are not only religious but also cultural, artistic and touristic and, inclusively, a reason for interior, personal search. To conclude, these two last types of testimonies are the ones gathered in this section of the customs of the people of Navarre.
