"Joke" is a term used to identify a plurality of humorous oral and graphic manifestations, which makes it difficult to define precisely. Ana Mª Vigara faced this difficulty and proposed a definition for this subgenre which we agree with: "humoristic and fictional pseudo- literary subgenre distinguished for its playful function, its comic intentionality, its briefness and for its surprise effect and expected "closing". Our only clarification (clarification since the own author herself mentions it) would insist on the fact that although the principle function of jokes is to entertain and produce the effect of laughter or fun there are other functions of great importance that can be qualified as "subversive" or "licentious". However, there is a fundamental characteristic to be added and that is its current importance: jokes are subject to a continuous process of contextualization or updating (else, they become old and known jokes making them effectiveless).
Definition of joke: difficulties and varieties. Borderline genres and interconnectedness (ludicrous story...).
Types of humor they explore.
Cycles of jokes and continuous updating. Migration of jokes such as the in the picture (There is an aeroplane aabout to crash. There are 5 passengers on board but only 4 parachutes.) (download: PDF current joke).
