Traditional poetry or verse is one of the most important manifestations of oral tradition of all cultures. Intimately realted to music, it presents certain psychodynamics, techniques and an oral style that makes it indistinguishable, whether it is traditional or not. In this sense, the Archive of Immaterial Heritage of Navarre intends to provide coverage to on one hand, the traditional poetical productions that have been transmited from generation to generation, true gems of oral and immaterial patrimony; but also on the other hand, to representative examplars of present popular production that follow the same oral style. Concisely, a series of genres have been determined:
The traditional song and all its subgenres. We have omitted some oral genres, such as the epic poems for instance, since already in medieval times they disappeared from oral tradition.
