En Corella estaban la Escuelas Nacionales y las Mercedarias que era un colegio de pago para los pudientes. Carmen estudió en las nacionales, recuerda a las maestras, unas eran mejores que otras. Aprendían con la enciclopedia, escribían con una pizarra y tiza. Estuvo en la escuela hasta los trece años, mientras le tocó ayudar en las labores de casa.
