This study analyses the relationship between intangible heritage and tourism from the perspective of one of the social agents operating in the patrimonial field; the State, through its institutions responsible for safeguarding this heritage in Santa Catarina. To that end, it seeks to explore the meanings attributed to this relationship, and to verify the presence of touristic aspects in the planning and the budgetary support given for the intangible heritage. This work emerged out of reflections in the context of the Tekoá Project: Community-based tourism in the Isla de Santa Catarina. The theoretical and methodological benchmarks are linked to the qualitative paradigm of investigation, using primary and secondary sources, and the theoretical fields of Geography, Tourism, and Anthropology. The data were constructed from statements and institutional documents referring to 2017 and 2019. The result of the study showed a predominance of the identity aspect and internal consumption of the patrimony, with actions directed towards the groups that hold these assets and the local residents, tourist consumption not being a priority interest for the state. These results differ from those of other studies that indicate a keen interest in the cultural patrimony as an economic asset.
